Rotterdam Reversed: Inside the Bridge

Since its completion in 1996, the Erasmus Bridge has become an icon of Rotterdam. During the Day and Night of Architecture, you’ll learn all about the bridge’s significance for the city: its role in connecting North and South, the redevelopment of the Kop van Zuid, and the transformation of former port areas like the Wilhelminapier. As part of the tour, you’ll descend into the impressive bascule basement, located 35 meters below ground. Here, two staff members will reveal the bridge’s secrets — from anchored cables and massive pumps to the latest innovations in water purification and sustainability.
